Our annual Pinewood Derby will be held Saturday, January 30th, 2010 at Oak Chan.
Dan Nyenhuis will be continuing as our Pinewood Derby Chair this year.
Weigh In On Race Day This Year!
Weigh-in will be the morning of the event this year, from 10-Noon. Please be sure to follow all the rules below, the cars will be checked for meeting all rules below in addition to their weight.
BBQ Before the Racing Starts
We'll be having a family BBQ again this year starting at 12 noon until 1pm when the racing starts. Hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, cookies, drinks, yum-yums, etc. is on the menu. Scouts eat for free, however family members will be charged a modest amount ($3-$5).
Racing Begins at 1PM!
Racing will begin right after lunch at 1PM, and run until all cars have had their complete cycle of races (generally this takes about two hours).

Pinewood Derby Rules
PLEASE UNDERSTAND, THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THESE RULES
- No precut cars or use of a previous year's car.
- The width is not to exceed 2 3/4 inches and inner wheel width a minimum 1 3/4 inches.
- Height from ground to underside of car will be a minimum of 3/8 inches (to clear our track).
- Car length will not exceed 7 inches overall. (Use a ruler to be sure! Nothing sticking out!)
- Weight will not exceed 5 ounces, with no loose weights. For best results, try to come as close to 5 oz. as possible but not over.
- The axles (nails), wheels, and body provided in the kit are to be used. Wheels and single piece axles purchased separately are not to be used.
- Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are not allowed.
- Wheels may be sanded until the mold seam is removed. Wheels are not to be turned on a lathe, completely smoothed, or modified. Some of the original surface should still be visible.
- Axles may only be lubricated with dry powdered graphite.
- No enclosing or packing wheels. No hub caps.
- No changing of the axle slot position. The pre-cut axle slot on the block of wood must be used. If the axle slot is not a true 90 degrees to the length of the car, adjustment may be made by filling the slot and re-sawing at the same location. Further, axles must be in the axle slots and should be glued in position.
- The car may not ride on any kind of spring(s).
- The car must be free wheeling, with no starting devices.
- No loose materials of any kind are allowed on the car.
- All cars must pass an inspection to qualify for the race.
- Minor repairs may be done by the race steward. In case of breakdowns,
the results are final.
- All decisions by the Pack Pinewood Derby committee are final.
- Sorry, but failure to follow the above rules will result in disqualification.
